Who are Omni Guitar Tuition?

Omni Guitar Tuition was set up to provide premium quality guitar lessons in Rotherham. I started teaching in 2014 and have grown my teaching network into a full time occupation.

I aim to develop your musicality on all levels – you won’t just learn to play a guitar in my lessons; you will also develop fundamental musical knowledge. I will show you how to improvise, learn by ear, and improve your technical abilities. In short, everything you need to become a competent musician and performer.

Tom Hobson – Founder

I graduated with a 2:1 degree in Music and Promotion from Huddersfield University in 2014. I have been teaching full-time since then, offering guitar lessons in Rotherham. I also work in schools, for Doncaster Music Service and Wickersley Partnership Trust. When I’m not teaching, you can find me playing at weddings, parties or corporate events as part of my band, Electric Idols.

I am a registered teacher with RGT (Registry of Guitar Tutors), and has a 100% pass rate. All RGT syllabuses are offered to a grade 8 standard; acoustic, electric, rock, classical and bass.

As well as RGT, I also offer tuition through LCM grades, RSL Awards and Trinity.

Having played guitar for many years, I have a very diverse approach to any genre of music you wish to study. Over the last 15 years I have taught and played virtually all styles of music, although I specialise in electric and acoustic guitar.

What I do

I’m a musician – it’s that simple. I teach guitar in schools across Rotherham and Doncaster during my weekdays.

In my evenings I take on private guitar and bass students. Lessons are delivered at my home, in Brecks, Rotherham.

At the weekend I’m usually out performing with my band, Electric Idols. I play at weddings, parties and corporate events. I’m a firm believer in practising what you preach, so I gig and perform about 70 events a year.

Omni means ‘all’ or ‘complete’. I was careful with how I named my teaching company because I’m very proud of the service I offer and I wanted the name to reflect what I provide. If you study with me, you will develop as a complete all round guitarist.

My lessons are always approached in a friendly, relaxed way in order to create a fun learning environment for students. Enjoyment and progression are key aspects of my tuition. Nobody wants a grumpy guitar teacher who isn’t teaching you anything new… right?

“Personally I really like guitar lessons with Tom because it’s rewarding when you’ve learnt to play an instrument.”

Caleb, Rotherham

My training and experience

Getting the right teacher is really important. Here’s some information about me to help you decide if I’m right for you.

Qualifications
  • I’m trained to degree level in Popular Music & Performance.
  • I have Grade 8 on my instrument.

Experience
  • Full time guitar teacher since 2014.
  • I teach individually or in pairs. In schools I have to teach larger groups of 4 or 5, or even a full class.

Ethos

I make my lessons as fun and engaging as possible, with a vast range of content available.

All I ask of my students is that they are willing to work hard outside of lessons too – practise really does make perfect!

Background

I have played guitar for around 15 years already, starting out studying classical, moving through to electric, acoustic, and also bass guitar.

I’m comfortable playing and teaching all styles including pop, rock, soul, funk, jazz and metal guitar.
