Who are Omni Guitar Tuition?

Omni Guitar Tuition is comprised of two guitar teachers based in Rotherham, South Yorkshire. Founded in 2014, we offer guitar lessons on a one-to-one basis or in groups.

We aim to develop your musicality on all levels – you won’t just learn to play a guitar in our lessons; you will also develop fundamental musical knowledge, and develop aural and reading skills as well.

Tom Hobson – Founder

Tom graduated with a 2:1 degree in Music and Promotion from Huddersfield University in 2014. He has been teaching full-time since then, offering guitar lessons in Rotherham as well as Sheffield and Doncaster.

Tom also works in schools as a peripatetic guitar teacher, and teaches guitar to NHS patients to aid their social recovery and to reintegrate them into their communities.

The majority of teaching carried out my Tom is private, taking place one-to-one at the students home.

Tom is a registered teacher with RGT (Registry of Guitar Tutors), and has a 100% pass rate. All RGT syllabuses are offered to a grade 8 standard; Acoustic, Electric, Rock, Classical and Bass.

As well as RGT, Tom also offers tuition through LCM grades, Rockschool and Trinity.

Having played guitar for many years, Tom has a very diverse approach to any genre of music you wish to study. Over the last 15 years Tom has taught and played virtually all styles of music, although he specialises in electric and acoustic guitar.

What I do

I am a professionally trained musician, and have a degree in Popular Music and Promotion from the University of Huddersfield, from which I graduated with a 2:1. I also have my grade 8 in guitar.

Now I teach in schools across Lincolnshire and Barnsley, and one evening each week at the Music City UK in Sheffield. As well as this I also work in conjunction with the NHS, teaching guitar to various patients to aid their recovery process and reintegration into the wider community. In the Doncaster region I work closely with Amped Up Music Academy to deliver even more guitar tuition. When I’m not teaching, I’m usually gigging with my own professional function band – Electric Idols at weddings or corporate events. Occasionally I also work as a pit musician for various amateur dramatic societies.

I aim to make my teaching as fun and enjoyable as I can. I learnt with several different guitar tutors and I can attest that the right teacher makes all the difference.

“Personally I really like guitar lessons with Tom because it’s rewarding when you’ve learnt to play an instrument.”

My training and experience

Choosing a tutor can be a difficult decision – a good teacher really does make all the difference! Here is some information about my musical background and training to answer any questions you may have!

I’m trained to degree level in popular music and performance, graduating with a 2:1 from the University of Huddersfield.

I also have grade 8 on guitar.

I have been teaching for several years while studying music myself. I now teach a massive range of students, from 7 years of age to 70. If you want to learn, I can teach you!

I teach individually, or in small groups (up to 7 or 8 people of similar ability).

I make my lessons as fun and engaging as possible, with a vast range of content available.

All I ask of my students is that they are willing to work hard outside of lessons too – practise really does make perfect!

I have played guitar for around 15 years already, starting out studying classical, moving through to electric, acoustic, and also bass guitar.

I’m comfortable playing and teaching all styles including pop, rock, soul, funk, jazz and metal guitar.

Aside from teaching I work in a professional function band, playing weddings and corporate events on a weekly basis.

I also occasionally work as a pit musician for various amateur dramatic societies.

Josh Guitar Teacher

Josh Heenan – Guitar Teacher

Hello, I’m Josh, and I will guide you along the path to becoming the best musician you can be! My passion for music and education has taken me all over the UK as a working musician playing shows in London, The Midlands, and all over Yorkshire.

Throughout this time I’ve gained a wealth of knowledge whilst studying under specialists of the instrument, and I cannot wait to share this with you.

What I do

Everyone is different, everyone is an individual, and therefore getting the right guitar teacher to suit your needs and achieve your aim is essential! As such I take pride in providing individually based, goal orientated tuition. So whether you’re looking to rock out with your friends, have a singsong round the campfire or just learn a new skill you’re in the right place.

When I’m not teaching you will find me working on various projects; I have involvements with local arts based charities as well as working within schools demonstrating guitar repair and maintenance.
